Current AGM report from the Chair

Hub chair’s report (Ruth Davies) November 7th 2009

In the past year we have been unable to arrange for Iranian women to visit us as we had hoped because of the turmoil in Iran. In fact it has been dangerous to e_mail our contacts and we know of one friend (a journalist) who is in prison.
Another abandoned project was the Conflict Resolution Weekend planned for
7-9th September. Not enough members applied to go, despite the subsidy offered.
The committee and regional groups have been going ahead with plans for a
ravelling exhibition and other activities in 2011, our 30th anniversary year. We have begun to contact women abroad and have had many positive responses. Up to 30 will be invited for a week in July or August 2011 and as part of their visit a residential weekend or 3-day mid-week stay will be arranged in London for them and some of our members.
Several of us learned more about Moslem women and met many at a weekend course held at Woodbrooke in Birmingham, 13-15 March.
Our Recharging Weekend was held at Noddfa, North Wales, 24-26th April, where we learned painting on silk, facilitated by Polly Ballantyne, as well as
exchanging news, holding the committee meeting and planning for the future.
The Interim Committee Meeting was held at Oxford YHA on 11th July when much was discussed including new promotional material, amendments to ‘Policies and Practices’ and the possibility of sending delegates to the women’s Peace Conference in Bulgaria in May 2010.
I now hand over to Wilma as the next Hub Chair, knowing that with her energy and the support of the committee, Women to Women will carry on with our
valuable ‘Bridge building’ work with women from many countries including our own.

Ruth
